An Art Roadtrip

My friend Nikki and I took a short roadtrip to Palo Alto's Cantor Museum. Our main destination was Rodin's Gates of Hell. It was lightly drizzling and we sat on a bench until the sun went down, sipping on a bottle of red wine.

We also enjoyed more of Rodin's isolated sculptures. I especially enjoyed this moment:

We then followed the undulating and snake-like wall by Andy Goldsworthy. The crickets chirped loudly and the fluorescent parking lot lights hummed constantly.

Afterwards, Nikki drove me to an abandoned and dark parking lot near the Google complex. Lo and behold, there was two large pieces of the dismantled Berlin wall. Very surreal.

We then moved to our next destination, an extremely large metal sculpture of the Virgin Mary. It saddened me because there were beautiful orchids left behind at the base...I hope someone rescues them. We then headed back to San Francisco and desperately searched for a place for a drink and was lucky to find that the bar The Residence served us very close to 2am. We sipped upon Scotch Islay Mist. Yum.

Southern Exposure Auction 2013

I volunteered tonight for the Southern Exposure auction. I helped manage the bar, which ended up being a huge job. It left me exhausted, but I was glad to see many artist friends.

You're W, I'm W, Repeat: 15

Sarah returned the W magazine to me and I painted another white model. It also inspired me to make a quick watercolor as well.

Figure Drawing Session

I attended a figure drawing session with my friend Eric. The model was quite good and ended up with a few interesting gestures. I always find that the shorter poses produce the best results. When it comes to the 20 minutes poses, I get finicky and am no longer responding to the moment. The end result is a chaotic, disharmonious mess. I have remedied this by breaking the 20 minute poses into several shorter drawings.

Art Opening Attended

Tonight I went to the opening at Creativity Explored entitled, For the Birds. As usual, it was refreshing to see such passionate and honest works of art. I get tired of seeing many contemporary works that are obscure, overly-intellectual, and flippant. Instead at this gallery, I am delighted by energetic gestures and a sensitivity to the mediums. My friend bought one of the framed paintings in the show of a black swan for a very, very reasonable price. I cannot wait for the next opening.
