Performance Art Piece

Today at Southern Exposure was a performance piece by the talented Jennifer Locke. She was assisted by my artist friend Lucas and another gentleman. Unfortunately, I was not able to attend in person, but they streamed the whole day on YouTube. I am really impressed with Locke's work and look forward to seeing more from her in the future.

A Night of Mediocre Performance Art

Tonight at Southern Exposure was a night of 40 performances by 40 artists for 4 minutes each. I attended with my friend Kate who is a professor of performance studies. It was great to hear her opinion, which agreed with mine–we were both very, very underwhelmed. The night felt like a Mid-Term project for freshman college students. A couple of these pics are performances that had potential, but still did not excel.

Airy's Art Opening

I attended my friend Airy's art opening last night with my friend Nikki. Airy featured an installation that included a slide show, found art objects, and a couple of beautiful drawings. She also showed three of her gorgeous films with the first multi-layered one being my favorite.

Afterwards, there was a happening that was performed by several of the other artists. It included our eyes taped shut while bright lights were shined at us. A breathy narrator told a story about going to the beach. Afterwards there was a group hug (I ran for the other room). Needless to say, I did not care for this piece filled with clichés and pseudo-spiritualism.

Nikki was not impressed with the happening...especially when it involved
having her wonderful eye makeup compromised.

Open Studios

After collaging all day, my friend Nikki and I headed over to Spring Open Studios at Blue Studios. This will be the last one due to the building being taken over by office spaces. There was a giant canvas that was a joint project and I decided to take it over.

Here is what the canvas looked like before and after:
